Today’s devotional meditation is taken from Proverbs 24:10, which says,

“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” (ESV).

It is inevitable that we will face trouble throughout our lives. Job 14:1 says, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.” How we handle adversity depends on where we are spiritually.

The true test of strength is adversity, for it reveals how strong we are. Our ability to press forward is contingent on how much we know about God and how close we are to HIm. If we spend time growing closer to Him through studying His Word and in prayer, we develop strength and courage to not allow the misfortunes of life cause us to give up. If we are always retreating in fear and anxiety, then we are very weak spiritually, and we lack knowledge of our Lord’s ability to help and sustain us in the day of difficulty.

I, therefore, encourage each of us to be determined to seek to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18).
