Today’s devotional meditation is taken from Romans 12:19, which says,

“Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” (NASB).

We all will encounter those who stand against and seek to do us wrong. Paul presents our personal duty to never take revenge against someone who has blatantly stood against us. I know it is difficult to not have the urge to retaliate against those who cause us grief and embarrassment. However, when we are controlled by the Spirit of God we have the ability to resist reciprocating against our offender.

The reason why it is necessary to never take revenge is because the Lord said He will come to our honor and deal with the offender. I know it will personally feel good to get back at the one who has boldly wronged us, but God has reserved that right for Himself. We will cause ourselves grief when we get in the way of the Lord’s dealings with others. We do not have the right to retaliate. We are to leave the responsibility of retaliation to God Himself. When God handles it, it is handled.
