Today’s devotional meditation is taken from Psalm 103:9, which says,
He will not always chide: Neither will He keep His anger forever.
The Scripture does not say that the LORD does not get angry with us. It says that “He is slow to anger…” Because of our tendency to go astray, at various times, and continue in our foolishness, He does become incensed with us, and moves to deal with us by chastening us. However, it is comforting to know that when He does get angry with our defiance, He will not hold a grudge against us, that is, He will not have any unending resentment toward us.
This picture contrast between the LORD’s generosity and the prolonged heavy-handed wrath of man, who loves to keep quarrels going on against one another. God’s anger, followed by His chastening is designed to drive us to repentance. That proves to us that He loves us enough to bring us back into loving fellowship. Imagine if the LORD was always upset with us when we sinned against him and held onto that resentment toward us. We would never experience relief from His anger. We must keep in mind that, because of His holiness, He is totally justified in judging us. I am so grateful that He is not like us. He knows our frailties and has great compassion on His own.
Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!
