And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. (Hebrews 9:27-28)

There is an inevitable reality that all human beings will continue to exist after their soul is separated from their bodies. First of all, I have to dispel some myths. Death is not annihilation, where the individual ceases to exist. There will not be a time of hanging out with old friends and loved ones from earth in the afterlife, having an eternal party. Another myth I want to dispel, everyone who dies, does not go to heaven.  Only those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.

I am more and more saddened by the number of people who reject the fact that after life in time, that they will exist in an eternal state. The believer on the other hand, knows that he or she will live eternally in the presence of the Almighty. However, many of those who are not believers tend to live as though after this life, there is nothing else. When God created man, the Scripture declares, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). Therefore, God created man as an everlasting being to live forever.  So then, every human being born into this world will exist forever  after passing away in this life.

After the fall of Adam and Eve, humanity suffered the reality of spiritual death that led to the eventual reality of physical death. It is from that place where we come to the Scripture text of Hebrews 9:27. The Hebrew writer states that since the fall of man, death is reserved in store for all human beings, and after death comes the judgment. This refers to the judgment of all people, believers (2 Cor. 5:10) and unbelievers (Rev. 20:11-15).

For the believer, this is the judgment seat of Christ; it is the judgment Paul refers to concerning  all of the deeds each Christian has done during their lifetime on earth, which is relevant for their eternal reward, and praise from God the Father they will receive.

The judgment of unbelievers is the Great White Throne judgment, which is the final judgment for all who have rejected Jesus Christ during their lifetime. The Great White Throne Judgment  is where every unbeliever will have to stand before Holy God and give an account of their works apart from Christ’s salvation, and afterward, being found guilty, they will be cast into the lake of fire which burns forever, which is the second death.

You may be wondering, what does this have to do with Christmas? It has everything to do with Christmas. Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God was born of a virgin, into the world in order to give His life a ransom for many. This infinitely loving act was done so that when one dies, his or her life after this life will continue existing in the eternal glories of Heaven in infinite everlasting bliss, in the presence of God the Father, and our Lord and  Savior, Jesus Christ. That is the Life after this life, that is of great importance for every human being. However, there are many who will not experience this blessed eternal state because of their rebellious rejection of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice.

We must not take lightly the fact that after life in time, we will live in eternity, either in Heaven or in the lake of fire. You must receive Christ in order to live in eternal delight. Secondly, we must be cognizant of the fact, that everyone will exist in a conscious state after life in time. Do not be fooled into thinking that this is our only existence in time. We all will experience everlasting existence after this life. Life in time is short. Life in eternity is forever, without end, in perpetuity, and never-ending. I call on everyone to seriously ponder these things.

Your servant in Christ,
