Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, among men with whom He is pleased. Luke 2:14 (NASB)
Our society has the notion that peace can be achieved by human effort. There has been peace talks that have taken place whenever a conflict has escalated into a war. There is always a cry for peace in our cities whenever chaos and violence has erupted. There is desire for peace among those whose lives are disrupted by inner restlessness brought on by the hardships and struggles of life. No matter the peace talks that take place during the time of war; no matter the cry for peace when bedlam has taken over our cities; no matter the desire for peace of mind when one is going through inner instability because of trouble, there will never be true and lasting peace. There will be moments when the cessation of agitation, turmoil and rage happens, only to come up again.
There is a notion that man can negotiate or legislate lasting peace. There is also a foolish notion that man can bring a Utopian wonderland to this present earth. There is a mistaken belief, that apart from God, mankind can create for themselves a lasting tranquility. I must vehemently say, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! The only time there will be worldwide peace and tranquility will be when Christ sets up His kingdom on earth during His one thousand year reign on earth. Every attempt since the fall of Adam until now, has been a futile effort that has failed to calm the stormy seas of discord.
I must state why there will be disharmony, discord and drama in our world, it is because man is sinful and Satan is actively involved in stirring up dissension and rebellion. The sinful state of man and the constant activity of dark forces is driven to maintain continual enmity and chaos in the world. I must once again declare, apart from spiritual transformation, in the lives of people, there will never be true and lasting peace. It does not matter how much we say we want peace in the world. It will never come about until Jesus Christ rules in the hearts of mankind.
The heavenly host who proclaimed on one of the three greatest days in the history of the earth by declaring, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, among men with whom He is pleased;” this speaks of the true peace that God has provided for mankind. It is contingent upon one’s relationship with His Son Jesus Christ. The peace on earth the heavenly host proclaimed, did not mean the absence of war or worldwide harmony among people and nations. It resoundingly means, peace between God and man. This can only come from one being born from above through faith in Jesus Christ which brings one into a genuine relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ. That is what brings true and lasting peace. Romans 5:1 declares, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” God is no longer at war with and hostile to the one who has surrendered to the will of God. He is now pleased with the individual.
This peace with which God now produces in the people of God, is the ability to spread the gospel truth to the lost in order to lead them to the true and lasting peace that only a relationship with Jesus Christ can bring. If anyone reading this has not surrendered to Jesus Christ; I ask that you confess the fact that you are a sinner, and that you are lost in your sins. Turn from your sinfulness and turn to Jesus Christ, and ask Him to come into your life and be the Lord of your life, and live for Him. He promises to come in and deliver you from the bondage of sin and the penalty of sin, which is the eternal wrath of God. You will then have a true and fulfilling relationship with Him that will exist now and for all eternity. That is what true and lasting peace is.
Your servant in Christ,
