One of the most beautiful songs sung every year during Christmas time is the song, “Mary, Did You Know.” The song says:
Mary, did you know, that your Baby Boy would one day walk on Water? Mary, Did you know that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your Baby Boy has come to make you new? This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you. Mary, did you know that Your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man? Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand? Did you know that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod? When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God? Mary, did you know the blind will see? The deaf will hear? The dead will live agin? The lame will leap? The dumb will speak the praises to the Lamb? Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations? Did you know that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb? The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am!
I don’t know if Mary understood the full impact of that which God the Father had done in her. But I do know that she held in her arms the Savior of the World. Scripture records that there were just a few who witnessed His arrival on that blessed day. There were many who were in Bethlehem obeying Caesar Augustus’ decree to go and register; however, they missed Christmas. And of that multitude, only a few Mary and Joseph and a few of lowly shepherds saw the Lamb of God. They were witnesses of the first Christmas.
There are many today who go through the motions of celebrating Christmas, but it is for superficial reasons. They are caught up in the trappings of Christmas: time off from work, getting and giving gifts; the family dinner on Christmas day. Singing Christmas Carols many of which do not exalt the Christ of Christmas. Office Christmas parties that are filled with alcohol and drinking. I must say for this reason many have missed or are missing Christ.
Mary may not have known the full impact of the Baby she held in her arms shortly after she gave birth to Him. She may not have comprehended the immensity of the fact that she was holding in her arms the One that would change the destiny of many men and women. But what Mary did know is what the angel Gabriel told her that she would “bring forth a Son, and she shall call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins.” Mary did not miss Christmas.
Now I lay before you today, do you know that, The little Baby that Mary delivered is the same Baby that created the heavens and the earth, and was part of the Divine heavenly counsel that made “man in His image? Do you know, He is the same Baby that walked among men and taught with authority, healed the sick, cast out demons, raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, opened up deaf ears? Do you know that He is the One who walked on water that He created? Do you know that He walked the earth in poverty? Do you know He suffered at the hands of men. Do you know He was falsely accused? Do you know He was physically beat, spit upon, whipped, nailed to a cross, died on a Friday and rose on an early on a Sunday Morning? Do you know that He ascended back to the Father and is making intercession for those who are Saved? Now I strongly urge you not to miss Christmas. Because if you miss Christmas, you will miss eternal life.
Your servant in Christ,
