The reality of Christ’s resurrection is overwhelmingly confirmed in the Bible. Acts 1:1-3 states:

The former treatise have I made O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach. Until the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen: To whom also He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things to pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

To His Credibility –

Because He predicted He would rise. Matthew records Jesus’ Words to His disciples three (Matthew 16:21; Matthew 17:23 and Matthew 20:19). Matthew 16:21 states,

From that time forth began Jesus to show unto His disciples how that He must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

The fact of the matter is, if Christ did not rise from the dead, then He would have been a liar after He told His disciples of His imminent death, burial and resurrection; but “God is not a man that He should lie; nor the son of man, that He should repent: Hath He said, and shall He not do it? Hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good” (Num. 23:19). If Christ had not risen from the dead, His credibility would have been destroyed. Christ’s resurrection validates the fact that He is a True Prophet. Also without Him rising from the dead, everything else would not have any believability.

To the Gospel –

Dr. Charles Ryrie states, “The Gospel is based on two essential facts: a Savior died and He lives. The burial proves the reality of His death.” The Gospel writers record the events of our Savior’s brutal death in detail. They also record the list of those to whom Christ showed Himself alive with many unmistakable proofs. The list of witnesses our Lord presented Himself to authenticates the reality of His resurrection. Without the resurrection there is no Gospel.

To His Work –

If Christ did not rise from the dead, His post-resurrection work would not be taking place now. His work would have ended at the cross. If there was no resurrection of Christ from the grave, we would not have a great High Priest in Heaven; There would be no one to intercede on our behalf to the Father; there would be no one to advocate for us, and there would be no Head of the Church. Moreover, there would be no Living Person to live in and empower us (Gal. 2:20).

To His People –

If Christ did not rise from the dead our witness would not be true; our faith would be false and we would of all people be most miserable. If Christ did not rise from the dead, then every believer would have no hope beyond the grave. Death would still have dominion over us. The Resurrection is important and it is real.

But the Good news is He Lives! He Lives! Christ Jesus Lives Today!!!
