Finally, Be strong in The Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:10-11, ESV)
This is a call to every believer to understand the times we live in. It is a call to spiritual sobriety. It is a warning against being an ostrich, you must take your head out of the sand, acting like nothing is wrong. Paul’s words to his son Timothy show us that we are living in treacherous times. He said, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1). As we look around us, we can see that these are savage times; not only for society, but especially for the people of God. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that we become battle ready.
The pendulum has swung so far against the standard of truth. Many are lining up against the foundational truths that we have stood on. Just look around, society stands up and rages against someone saying they believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. They label that as hate speech, and will go out their way to scorn and ridicule us. They seek to destroy you. Let me warn you that we must be battle ready. We must always stand on what God has declared as truth. Genesis 1:27 declares, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (ESV). I stand upon God’s original design, and so must you. We should have the right to believe what we want to believe, just as society has the right to believe what they want to believe.
When we look at the news, we see the media going over the top pertaining to the disciplining of your children. Let me first begin by showing you what God has said regarding the disciplining of children; Proverbs 22:15 states, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child: but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him” (KJV). Now there is absolutely no way that we advocate abuse. God knows that it is necessary for children to be disciplined when they rebel against parental authority. Discipline helps them to learn to respect authority; this way it helps to keep law enforcement from using force on them; it helps them remain employed; it helps them respect those who are over them. My point is, society has an opinion that is usually against God’s standard of truth. Therefore it is necessary for us to arm ourselves with the truth that God has laid out in His Word. When Peter and John were told not to teach in the Name of Jesus Christ, He promptly said, “We must obey God rather than men.” That is our mandate.
God has truly given us the tools that we can be armed and ready for battle. I believe that we are about to face and all out assault upon the church. It is therefore necessary for us to be battle ready. It is time out for being shallow Christian. This time calls for spiritual maturity. Do not be blindsided by the schemes of the enemy. In Ephesians 6:10-12 Paul speaks of the spiritual battle that all believers will endure, he says,
Finally, be strong in The Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places.
I want to encourage you to take seriously what we are facing, and dig in by continuing steadfastly in prayer, the study of God’s Word and in Christian fellowship in order to encourage and provoke one another to love and good works. This fight is no place for the lazy, half-hearted individual. It is no place for the individual that takes an indifferent approach to what is going on all around us. I want to warn you, you will be severely defeated if you do not look at this and draw closer to The Lord and the people of God. Are you ready for the battle?
Your servant in Christ,
