Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching – Hebrews 10:25

I have had the privilege of being a part of the local assembly, that is the Church, all of my life. As a child, I literally thought everyone attended church because it was a way of life in my family. It was not just in my family, but it was a way of life for many families during the era I grew up. However, it is not like that anymore. Many individuals who claim to be Christians, find no need to attend church regularly. I find it strange that they never skip out on everything else they like. I absolutely look forward to attending church.

I have a great love for the church because it is comprised of those who have been called out of darkness into the Lord’s marvelous light; those who heard the gospel of Jesus Christ preached, and who know that they are sinners and that Jesus Christ died for their sins and rose from the dead. They repented of their sins and believed on Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. As I further think about the Church, I understand that it is the Lord’s most precious institution on earth; Acts 20:28 proves the point, Paul expresses to the Ephesian Elders to, “Therefore, take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood” (NKJV).

I want to enumerate a few reasons why we should attend church. However, I want to first state that church attendance is not to be viewed as something we must do legally in order to please God. Or, if one regularly attends that he or she will automatically have entrance into the presence of The Lord upon passing away. The reason why we should attend church is: To be fed spiritually (Ephesians 4:11-16); To provoke one another to love and to good works; (Hebrews 10:24); To encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25a) and To Worship corporately (Hebrews 10:25b).

A dynamic functioning church will be involved in the lives of the people. It is sad to say that there are many churches that are places where the membership attends only to watch things happen. The Bible is full of admonitions showing us the necessity of edifying one another in love; ministering to each other with our spiritual gifts and bearing one another’s burdens. We will not be able to receive those benefits from others or be the one who is able be a blessing to those who are in need of receiving encouragement from us. If we neglect attending church, we will not be able to share in the responsibility of serving one another.

The local assembly is the place where the people of God gathers in order to glorify God, Edify the saints of God and to grow in knowledge of the truth through being taught the Word of God in order to win the lost. So, by all means, attend Sunday School and Church, you will be blessed.
