There is a foolish notion among some that attend churches that it is okay to not love others in the church, notice I said a foolish notion, and the reason it is foolish is because God has commanded us to “love one another.” Those words are not a suggestion, as some would like to think, based upon their willful disobedience to what the Lord has commanded. Do not be mislead into thinking that you can hate others that are supposed to be your brothers and sisters in Christ, and still see Jesus’ face when you die. The Bible says, “He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.” (I John 2:9). Those who claim to be Christians, and yet are characterized by hating others, reveal that they have never been born again.

Let’s look some more at what the Bible says about genuine love, the Bible says, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” I John 4:7-8. We must understand that everyone that is born again will reflect God’s nature, and God is love. Only those who are truly born again will demonstrate the characteristic habit of love. Understand this, someone may claim to be a child of God, but it is only those who show love like their heavenly Father, are those who actually possess His divine nature and are truly born again.

We must all understand that we are not perfect individuals and that we all have flaws. We must understand that there are things that others do that will irritate us; but the key is for us to remember that we do things that irritate others also. So don’t even think that you are justified in your actions. We must live with each other everyday, and we must accept whatever flaws that others have, just as they must accept whatever flaws we have. It is very arrogant of you to hate someone else because you don’t like their personality or some unpleasant quality about them. Well, who are you in the first place?! When was the last time you looked in the mirror and thought about your personality?

Stop talking about how much you love the Lord when you can’t stand the one that is your brother or sister in Christ. The Bible says, “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.” (I John 4:20-21). It is a great contradiction to hate the one that is our brother or sister, and we must start being obedient to what the Word of God says. We must submit ourselves to the will of God and be obedient. Do not allow your pride to cause you to never see Jesus. If there is someone here today that you do not like, or as some may say, “have a problem with,” which is a polite way of saying you hate them, get the matter settled today, because none of us know when we will leave this life.

Your servant in Christ,
