God’s grace and mercy has brought us to the Year 2014.  We experienced many life changing events throughout 2013; some have been pleasant, some not so pleasant.  However you look at it, it was and is God’s providence that directed us to the places of our lives that worked ultimately for our good and for His glory.

From the first of January until December 31st, we have seen our nation and our world spiraling out of control.  No matter how the Dow Jones, NASDAQ or the S&P 500 Indexes keep rising, we are facing economic doom worldwide.  May I ask, how far does your dollar go?  It appears that only a handful of individuals are making out, like the proverbial saying, “fat rats.” Governments around the world are unstable and corrupt.  Our nation alone is in the midst of great moral decline. The prophet Isaiah gives a strong warning when he says, “Woe those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20 NKJV). We here many times of the despair people are experiencing; the suicide rate has risen, especially among teenagers.  If you are looking for things to get better socially, you have put your faith somewhere where it should not be.  What is also so discouraging to me is that many “Christians” are allowing Politics to shape Theology, which should never be.

In the life of the Believer, God orders events that brings about growth that will produce fruit.   As we reflect back on 2013, I am quite sure there were many challenging trials that we all have endured.  Many situations you were oblivious as to how you were going overcome.  The encounters, at that time, were so overwhelming to you and you just did not know what you were going to do.  Or maybe it was every time you prayed, it seemed things got worse.  The problems just lingered on and on and on.  I want you to think about it, you’re still here, and God has not forgotten about you at all.  He continues to keep you and I through the storms.

Well, 2013 is OVER, and we are now into a new year. We must stop bemoaning the troubles of 2013, because every day wasn’t bad; and start thanking God that it was not as bad as it could have been.  I have some news for you, you will have trouble in 2014 as well.  If you don’t believe me, let me prove my point.  Today is January 5th and I am quite sure that you have already experienced some type of problems…So move on.  All I am saying is, God has promised to keep His children through our trials, storms, hardships, dilemmas, disappointments, despairing moments and crisis.

We must move forward by faith. Proverbs 3 gives us an imperative to “’Trust’ in the Lord with all our heart.”  As God’s grace moves us farther into 2014, we must not focus on the past troubles; or worry about what could go wrong.  We must devote our lives to growing closer to the Lord day by day, and trusting Him in everything His will allows to come upon us, knowing that He knows what is best for us.  Stop trusting in self and place all of your trust in Christ, let Him do what He promised He would do.  Let each of us move forward by faith in 2014.   Happy New Year!!!

Your servant in Christ,

Pastor Moore
