On February 15, 1962 a 10 pound 10 ounce baby boy was born to James & Erma Moore. He is the youngest of 5 children: Erma Jean, Mae, Marilyn and Nadine. James Moore, Jr. was blessed to have parents who loved him very much. While being the only boy and the baby of the family, you could say that he lived a privileged life. Both of His parents have gone home to be with the Lord. James, Jr. is forever grateful to God Almighty for blessing him to have two such wonderful parents that loved him enough to make him do what was right.
James grew up in San Diego, California. His parents were members of Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. S. M. Lockridge. His parents made sure that Jesus Christ and the Church were a major part of his life. He received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was baptized as a child. He was very active in Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, Junior Usher Board, Vacation Bible School, Youth for Action, and for a brief moment, he even tried to sing in the Youth Choir. Many people had an active part in James’ growth as a young Christian, from the Cradle Roll to the Young Adult Department.
As Providence would have it, James and Gloria grew up two houses from each other, and they both tell the story how they did not like each other as children. But as time went by things begun to change. October 13, 1984, James and Gloria Jeanette Price were joined in holy matrimony and are now into their 29th year of marriage. James & Gloria have been blessed with two beautiful and healthy children, Victoria LaNise, who lives in Houston, Texas and Isaiah James, who lives in San Diego. He has often told friends that being Gloria’s husband and the father of Victoria and Isaiah is the greatest honor that God has entrusted him with.
In 1992 James accepted his call to the Ministry, and on November 25, 1992 he preached his first sermon at the Calvary Baptist Church, and holds the distinct honor of being the last preacher Dr. S. M. Lockridge licensed before he retired as Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. He served as an Associate Minister at Calvary from 1992 to October 1994. God then provided him with an opportunity to serve in a greater capacity that he might gain more experience in the ministry as the Assistant Pastor of New Faith Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. John H. Barnes, Pastor. Rev. Moore served at New Faith Baptist Church for 10 years.
In December of 2004 Rev. Moore received a telephone call from Rev. Anthony C. Frazier, then Pastor of New Paradise Baptist Church, stating that things have transpired at his home church, St. John Baptist Church in Oceanside, California. Due to the recent passing of the late Pastor, Dr. T. W. Davis, Rev. Frazier stated that St. John Baptist Church had called him to be their Pastor, and after much prayer the Lord confirmed in him that he was God’s choice for St. John B.C. Pastor Frazier then told Rev. Moore that God had strongly placed him on his heart, and he was highly recommending that Rev. James Moore, Jr. become the next Pastor of New Paradise Baptist Church.
Once again God’s divine providential hand moved and on December 31, 2004, Rev. James Moore, Jr. became the new Pastor of New Paradise Baptist Church.
Since becoming the pastor of New Paradise, Pastor Moore has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Southern California Bible Institute. And He is now pursuing his
Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies. After receiving his Master’s Degree, Pastor Moore plans to pursue his Doctorate Degree.
